Novalia in 2022: Significant awards and active involvement in education
To make the balance sheet for 2022 complete, we would be remiss not to mention our other activities in addition to the major transactions. We received awards, developed our art law practice, supported education, and actively participated in helping refugees from Ukraine. Our team grew as well with new young colleagues.
Let’s start with the international context. We appreciate that our work is valued by our clients and, thanks to their trust, we are ranked third in the Commercial, Corporate, and M&A category by The Legal 500, a London-based rating agency. And it’s not the first time! We have appeared in this ranking for the past five years. Since 2018 we have been ranked among the top 25 law firms in the Czech Republic, again in the most important category for us: Commercial, Corporate, and M&A.
Ondřej Mánek was also awarded the Lawyer of the Year 2020/2021 award in the Pro Bono category. For more information, see Forbes magazine. Ondřej accepted the award for his volunteer help in a local hospital during the pandemic. But then came another crisis – the war in Ukraine. We were moved to take an active role in helping refugees and advised the Consortium of Non-Profit Organizations on the launch of a portal to provide legal aid and data protection advice for refugees from Ukraine.
However, we still continued with our legal activities in the field of art law, which are handled by Iva Javorská and Tereza Jandáčková. In addition to designers, architects, artists, galleries, actors and clients from other artistic disciplines, both colleagues also supported emerging artists through the non-profit organization Fair Art.
We like to get involved in projects that make sense, and last year was no different when we joined a project aimed at creating sample investment documentation for startups. The main goal is to speed up and streamline the process of signing investment agreements. Sedláková Legal together with Sparring is behind this idea and you can read about it in the article on CzechCrunch.
We didn’t stay behind in the field of education either, where our colleague Ondřej scored for the second time. But in this case, it was for the ECCEDU summer program, where he talked about mergers and acquisitions. You can watch the full recording at this link.
Iva Javorská focused on copyright law during her lectures at UMPRUM, AVU and FaVU. She shared some of her thoughts and findings in an article which you can read on our blog.
Last but not least, we welcomed Kristina Geržová and Lucie Schweinerová to our team, who started as an interns. We are proud that we manage to attract and develop young talents who are interested in starting their legal career in our firm.
With that, we thank all our clients for their trust and look forward to the challenges and opportunities that await us in 2023!
